It is interesting that you mentioned "Lonely Hearts." I was also thinking of whether or not that film deserved to be listed. Unfortunately, not all of the cast managed to match Ryan's performance. To my way of thinking, he is far and away the best thing in an otherwise disappointing picture that suffered by from a Hollywood ending that departed from the novel.
"Billy Budd" is an impressive film. I also liked Ryan's supporting role in "Gunfight at the O. K. Corral."
