Well, Boris Ingster is truly the ace in this particular birthday deck! There simply aren't enough adjectives in my own Book of Superlatives to do justice to Ingster's seminal B noir masterpiece, STRANGER ON THE THIRD FLOOR. Personally, I like to think of this film as the very first in the noir cycle, although like virtually everything else, that too is subject to debate. Nevertheless, it's a sad shame that Birthday Boy Boris didn't get the opportunity to do more in this vein, especially at RKO.
