it is not a popularly held view. Nevertheless, I fervently hold firm that the Siodmak version of THE KILLERS is dull as dishwater compared to Siegel's.
Very true. Siodmak's film starts out on a high note, but becomes a real snoozer midway. Siegel's lower budget work might not have the atmospheric visuals, but its visceral intensity far outweighs its smaller price tag. Under Siegel's camera eye The Killers becomes a taut, mean, frightening film and isn't that what a "Killer" is all about?
