1000 gomens for putting anybody on to "Chandler"tonight on TCM ...what a dreary and dreadful film. The hotel wallpaper was more engaging that the story. No wonder the head of MGM had a problem with the producer(Caron's husband) on this one...Warren Oates, that "monkey-faced detective" proves he's no leading man...Leslie Caron should stayed in musicals and the director should have stayed in bed...or maybe he did.
Nothing works in this meandering and pointless mish mosh of mobsters, molls and the government(?).. the plot is devoid of suspense, the extras look like the waxworks, with the featured players equally lifeless. The dialogue says; "Move over Plan 9...here come's "Chandler" and is beyond laughable. Poor Raymond must have turned over in his grave when they 'homaged" him in this turkey.
Instead of those Meow Mix commercials (truth is stranger than fiction) that we're using for torture at Gitmo..we should show those evil 9-11 terrorists this film over and over...now that would be torture!
