Siegel's contributions to the noir universe can't be over estimated enough. The best of his films are fraught with anxiety and driven by relentless energy. His mind-blowing sci-fi noir INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS more or less set the standard for paranoia inducing cold war entertainment and his crime films from that period hold up beautifully. His version of THE KILLERS (1964) blows Siodmak's off the screen and, of his later work, CHARLEY VARRICK emerges as one of the 70s most compelling films, deepening with each successive viewing. He was truly a giant among directors.
