Posted by Dan in the MW If the IMDb listings are correct, Raft was nearly fifty-years of age as opposed to Gardner's tweny-three during the filming. Raft's rival, Tom Conway, who had to play a man who was supposed to be Raft's senior, was actually nine years younger than George.

I took my first look at this marginal noir offering at the Portage Theater yesterday.
It was definitely low budget, but still a rung higher on the ladder for several of the usual suspects (Nero Films included more than a few PRC staffers). The credits included Phillip Yordan, Russell Metty and Seymour Nebenzal among others.
Ava Gardner was an eyeful, but a badly cast George Raft, who seemed to be trying, but not succeeding to bring off his role, sank the picture. In addition to his usual deadpan manner, Raft was simply too old to play Gardner's romantic interest.
