Let's add MARK OF THE WHISTLER (1944) and POWER OF THE WHISTER (1945), two of the finest B noirs ever made, to that short but impressive list. It's a shame that WOMAN ON PIER 13 has such a shoddy reputation; it's really quite an arresting noir. And good as it is, one can only imagine how differently that film might have played had Nicholas Ray succumbed to Howard Hughes' "request" that he direct it!
