Good idea redoing some of the early lost NOTWs. I believe I have all of my back ones with the exception of On Dangerous Ground, which once was on Steve-O's Back Alley site but has since been overwritten. Some are still there, though, like Nightmare Alley.
I've always fancied taking another crack at some of those early ones, notably The Big Combo, Night and The City, Highway 301 and others. As I recall, many of the first NOTWs were quite short, and some more detailed blowouts are in order.
Great workup on Thieves' Highway, Don. Have to agree on Millard Mitchell, quite a feat in any movie that includes Lee J. Cobb. Jack Oakie is also quite memorable in this film.
