Of course, you're absolutely right about the popularity of the zither score for The Third Man. It apparently was a big reason for the success of the film. Karas used the profits from the soundtrack, LPs and performances that resulted from the popularity of the movie to fund his purchase of a winery/resteraunt in Vienna-Sievering, called "Zum Dritten Mann" (The Third Man) where he played for many years. But I agree with Jefty, it should have been left as the opening theme. And it's even more annoying on the radio show.
