I did a NOTW on this title not too long ago. I think it should still be accessible. If not, let me know and I'll e-mail you a copy. Great film. To answer your questions: Fred was a newspaper reporter who had written an expose on a rival Brighton gang which lead to the killing of Pinkie's "boss", Bill Kite (the rival gang thought that Kite had been the reporter's source). Fred had been sent back to Brighton as part of the newspaper contest, representing the paper. Pinkie and his gang killed him for revenge.
