In all I believe it was a good opening victory. As I stated in my game update the massed just under 500 yards off offense against one of the better defenses in the SEC, at least last season they were.
The Mountaineers ran the ball well and nearly had two hundred yard rushers and showed good balance with Skyler Howard throwing for 250+ yards and Dakiel Shorts catching 8 passes for 131 yards.
Defense looked good and aggressive against a struggling Tigers offense but still a solid performance. And finally the Special Team play was very good with 4 Mike Molina field goals and 5 punts for an average of 45.4 yards by sophomore punter Bill Kinney along with solid kick coverage.
It is a concern if something happens to Skyler Howard as at lease in the first game both William Crest and Chris Chungunov did not appear close to being ready to play.
The true test will be against BYU in a couple of weeks in Redskins Stadium. BYU is always a wild card and you never know how good they will be.
