As unreal as it all seems this West Virginia Football team could literally come out of nowhere and win the Big 12 Conference.
Just two Saturdays ago with 5:55 to go in the 4th quarter against Texas Tech in Lubbock with the Mountaineers down 34-20 it appeared as though WVU would suffer a mild upset in a game they were slightly favored to win and be 3-3 heading into the Baylor game where they would be major underdogs.
At that point of the game in Lubbock I was thinking that the Mountaineers were most likely going to end up a 6-6 or at best a 7-5 team headed to another Bowl game that nobody really wants to attend.
However...After the amazing 17 point rally and the 55 yard walk off field goal to win the game on the road followed by the stellar effort to upset the #4 Baylor Bears the Mountaineers have gone from a potential 7-5 or 6-6 team to a possible 10-2 Big 12 Champion and as crazy as that would have sounded two Saturdays ago it is certainly possible now.
Of course it will take a major commitment from the players and coaches to stay focused for these final 5 football games but it certainly lays out nice for WVU.
This week in Stillwater against an Oklahoma State team that just got spanked by TCU it would seem the Mountaineers should be able to win this football game. It will certainly be tough as it will be Homecoming Saturday in Stillwater but on offense the Cowboys just simply are not as strong without starting quarterback J.W. Walsh.
The next game would then be TCU at Mountaineer Field on November 1st. Look for another crazy WVU crowd, especially if they win this week and go into that game 6-2 with a chance to grab eliminate another roadblock to the Big 12 title.
Then its on to Austin Texas to play the struggling Texas Longhorns who at 3-4vlook like a team that will struggle to get the needed 6 wins to go to a bowl game.
Then its back home to Mountaineer Field to play the Kansas State Wildcats on Thursday night November 20th on Senior Night in what would be the Big 12 Championship game of both teams keep winning until this game. It could be a wild night in Morgantown for that game. The Mountaineers would have to be stoked up for a night game that decides the Big 12 Title.
And if all this plays out the EERs would need just a final victory against the Iowa State Cyclones in Ames Iowa on November 29th and it would be off to the Fiesta Bowl.
Granted the EERS could stumble along the way but you have to admit the two toughest games are at home and the three road games are certainly winnable.
Wow I would have never believed that WVU would be in this position to at the very least have an impact on the Big 12 race before this season started.
