DC, I hear ya!
I keep my hopes up that Rod learns and corrects for this shortfall.
Also, I had to remind a gloating Pittsburgh friend of mine who was making excuses for Wannstadt not having a winning season after 3 years and having 3 years of top twenty recruiting classes; that Rods first year was 3-8, then winning seasons every year after that. Throw in all the bowl game wins etc and one can see he is a good coach although not infallible. I also reminded him there was good reason Wannstadt left the NFL. Anyway DC, I liked your comment about Wannstadt!!

: Russ,
: Coach Rod, the master of the spread
: offense, which began as a pass-f-irst,
: run-second strategy, seems to have
: become mesmerized by the great talents
: of White, Slaton, and his
: over-achieving 3 star offensive line
: over the past few years. Had he thrown
: on first down at least 50% of the time,
: once he saw Pitt loading up against the
: run, we could have easily won the game.
: Patrick White is a good passer, but you
: are right, he has too few receiving
: targets.
:
: I hope this brilliant, young coach has
: learned from this horrible and painful
: game. We shall see. The funny, and very
: ironic. thing is that we will probably
: be playing the best team in America
: (Oklahoma) as our bowl punishment. I
: truly believe that we would have taken
: care of Ohio State quite easily in the
: championship game.
:
: PS...Could SOMEBODY please hit Dave
: Wannstadt over the head with his
: crutches? Or least make him audition at
: the Homestead Community Theatre for the
: role of Brick in Tennessee Williams'
: "Cat on a Hot Tin
: Roof?"...pronto!

: Sorry for bringing this up again as
: I've
: been in shock since the game. First
: off, I didn't see the game so please
: forgive me if I'm in error.
: Seems to me that we live and die by the
: run and that Rod stubborningly refuses
: to pass....always tries to force the
: run. Doesn't matter how many great
: backs you have...load the box to stop
: the run with a half way speedy defense
: and you will succeed. We don't have
: the depth necessary at receiving. I've
: noticed we haven't recruited receivers
: very well over the last 3 years. If I
: was a potential top receiver it would
: be hard to come to WVU knowing they are
: focused primarily on the run game.
: Maybe we need a new receivers coach???
: Defense played well by holding them to
: 13. Make the two field goals and we
: win...even with very little offense.
: It will be interesting to see how
: recruiting goes after that game. This
: link shows which recruits were there,
:
: .
: Also, I'm worried about the pyschology
: state of the kids going into the
: Oklahoma game. Win or lose hope they
: have fun and realize we all SUPPORT
: THEM NO MATTER WHAT!
