I have a '95 Shadow ACE with Vance and Hines Straight Shot pipes with baffles and the K&N air filter and the stock jets work fine, they are 175,180 jets. I have narrowed down the needles for better throtle response and turned the mixture screws out a ways to get a richer mixture on the low end, the bike starts on the first click and runs great. Try some Cobra slip ons if you don't want to remove the head pipes. Should run great without re-jetting the carbs.
: You do not need to rejet, however you will need
: to fatten up the carbs a bit. The bike
: came from the factory very lean anyway, a
: fatter mixture is in order without a
: modified exhaust. On the side of each
: carb there is a metal plug approximately
: 1cm in diameter. (There are two plugs so
: it should be the larger one) You will
: need to drill a small hole in these plugs,
: just enough to break through the plug. Be
: careful because the mixture screw is just
: under these plugs. Once you have the hole
: drilled, threas a small screw, any type,
: into the plug just enough to bind into the
: plug. Then with pliers or something pull
: on the screw and the plug should pull out
: as well exposing the mixture screw. (The
: plugs are put there so the average person
: can't play with the mixture, which could
: change the amount of emmissions the bike
: produces) With the mixture screws, out is
: fat (rich) in is lean. Your bike is
: already lean so I would start with 2
: rounds out on each carb. The bike will
: start better and warm up faster. However
: you dont want to get it too fat because
: the performance will suffer and your pipes
: will blue. Conversley, you need to richen
: the mixture because a lean mixture causes
: a cold nature, and could burn pistons. I
: have mine adjusted just enough so that id
: does not backfire on deceleration, and I
: occasionally need to choke it for cold
: starts on a warm day. I learned the hard
: way that the bike already has bigger jets
: than you will get in a jet kit, they
: (Cobra) just gives you a thinner slide
: needle. If adjusting the mixture scres
: doesn't help, there are other things you
: can do without buying a jet kit.

: I have a 1999 Honda Shadow A.C.E. I would
: like
: to make the factory exhaust louder with
: out rejetting carbs. How can I do this?
