I am a homeschooling mother of four (number five due to arrive in October), the oldest of whom is five years old. We use Montessori materials and methods in our home. I take a Montessori/ unschooling/ a la John Holt, Charlotte Mason approach to my children's education. I also run an Atrium at our parish. This will be our fourth year coming up, and we are up to five sessions of fifteen children per session. We have several catechists and many others who work for the Atrium, all in a volunteer capacity. I am trained as a catechist for the 3-6 level and I expect to begin my 6-9 training this summer. Since my children are so little, I would not consider myself an expert on raising children. However, I am trained as a traditional teacher in traditional methods, I taught in Catholic schools for two years, and I do have a good bit of familiarity with Montessori methods as well.
We do have pictures but I'll have to find them (we just moved to a new house) and get them scanned in order to send them. I'll do it as soon as I can.
The Atrium has been a huge hit at our parish and I would urge anyone who's considering taking the training for Catechesis of the Good Shepherd, to go ahead and do so, and get ready to work really hard for something of such eternal worth: your child's salvation and that of many other children who will spend time in your Atrium. Truly, there is no better method of nurturing the Faith in our children.
