Posted by Cay on December 22, 2005, 10:04 pm, in reply to "abacus for the young ones?" Oma bought my girls a huge wooden one. It's beautiful and they usually play "pet shop" with it. Instead of wooden beads, it's made of wooden butterflies, bees, turtles, rabbits, etc.

We've always used the multi-colored beads.
Did Montessori have a preference? I never thought about whether a certain abacus matters or not. There are so many different one.
