Ontario has been without an official residence for the LG since Chorley Park was closed in 1936. I'm wondering what people think about a campaign to designate Casa Loma as the lieutenant-governor's official residence? Most of the building could remain open to the public with an apartment set aside for the LG's private use and the building could be used for formal functions and as a residence for visiting royals. I think adding a royal cachet to Casa Loma would also be a boon for tourism and reverse the site's current revenue problems. I expect most LGs would remain in their private homes during their tenure but having Casa Loma as an official residence for functions and the LGs offices would both raise the position's profile and independence from the legislature which the current practice of having the LG situated inside the legislative buildings tends to undermine. What do people think?
