Two years ago, Her Majesty stood on the stage on Parliament Hill and addressed the nation. Sitting beside her throughout was His Royal Highness the Duke of Edinburgh. Each of them have enough medals and other decorations to choke a horse. How many did they wear at the Canada Day ceremony? None.
Last year, the Duke of Cambridge stood in the same place and addressed the nation. He too has more than a few medals and decorations. Indeed, both he and his grandfather have some pretty impressive uniforms to go with them. And did either of them wear those uniforms? No.
And people here are criticizing the Governor General for not wearing his? His Excellency has shown his willingness to wear both his uniform and decorations at appropriate times. That does not, however, mean they should be welded to his chest everywhere he goes.
Are such pedantic matters of dress really the priorities of the League and its members? Frankly, I think there are more pressing matters to concern ourselves with, and serious consideration needs to be given to focusing on the forest, rather than the twig on the limb on the branch of a tree in that forest.
