Why jump to all sorts of conclusions behind the demise of the vice-regal uniform? (And it is not dead yet; several LGs have brought it back.) Did it ever occur to you that maybe it fell out of use because it was uncomfortable and unfashionable? Perhaps one should field the opinion of vice-regal representatives in Canada rather than make assumptions.
Regarding the Vice-Regal Recognition Badge: it was discussed at length over the course of several conferences of the Lieutenant Governors and Commissioners. The design was approved by the Queen, and one can only assume that it is worn with pride by those entitled to wear it.
The personal choices of our government officials when it comes to their wardrobe are simply that: personal choices, reflections of personalities rather than subliminal messaging to appease monarchists or republicans.
