Well, His Excellency has demonstrated that he has no problem with wearing a military uniform on certain occasions, and I've seen him wearing decorations on less formal occasions (in the pictures put up on the Rideau Hall website). It is one thing to dress in a business suit because it is comfortable attire on a warm day; it is quite another to dress in one merely because it looks more "democratic." People who are not aware of his being the representative of the Queen might assume that he is just another politician.
As for the content of the noon show, I truly believed that it has been much better over the past few years than it was yesterday. Whether the "tackiness" factor was more noticeable this year because of budget cuts (most likely), or because the absence of royalty is hard to determine. At least His Excellency arrived in the landau...
