Quick question: all of the news reports say that this was the first time that a "non-British, non-military" unit has performed the duties of the Life Guard. Somewhat confusingly, most news reports also note that the NWMP performed this duty for Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubiliee. Was the NWMP of the day considered "British" or "military" or both?
