As usual, I heard Holy Mass at St Michael's Cathedral in Toronto today. But I did not hear one mention of Her Majesty or Her Diamond Jubilee. I was profoundly disappointed.
I will be writing to Thomas Cardinal Collins for an explanation of why he decided to overlook such an important occasion, not just to honour Canada's Queen, who has that position by the grace of God, but to hold her up as a model of someone who lives out her deep Christian convictions. I trust there will not be any nonsense, in this oecumenical age, about Henry VIII or the Church of England.
I am wondering what other Canadian faith communities have (or have not) offered prayers for Her Majesty on the occasion of Her Diamond Jubilee.
