There was some uncertainty before about what procedure needed to be followed for Jamaica to become a republic. Mr Wilkinson, no monarchist, makes it clear that a supermajority in parliament and approval in a referendum are both required. Let's see what happens. If Jamaica carries this out I suspect other Caribbean realms will follow as their 50th anniversaries come up as they have so little to show for the last half-century. (I wonder if the region would have been more successful had the West Indies Federation survived - it's almost like looking at a mirror to see what would have happened had Canadian confederation been stillborn with the exception that there've been no annexations by the US).
