Mr Wilkinson, the president of the Bar Association, makes no bones about his support for a republic, notwithstanding his laughable protestation of neutrality.
He takes great issue with the fact that virtually nothing happens in Jamaica without the consent of the unelected Governor-General. A few moments later, he expresses admiration for the republican system in Trinidad and Tobago, where the unelected president has precisely the same powers.
His principal reason for abolishing the monarchy? It is an umbilical cord to the UK -- no mention is made of the 14 other realms -- that keeps Jamaicans in a colonial frame of mind, preventing them from "reaching higher".
But Jamaicans will not be fooled. They know that it is not internalised colonialism that is preventing Jamaica from reaching higher. It is violence and corruption, often fostered by the political parties, a mismanaged economy and decades of ineffectual government that are at fault.
"Mrs Queen" is seen as a last rampart protecting Jamaica from anarchy and banana republic status. Having watched this video - thank you, Dave! - I am more convinced than ever that the referendum will fail.
