The Governor General will participate in Diamond Jubilee events in Barbados on his upcoming tour, which also includes stops in Brazil and Trinidad & Tobago, the PMO announced today:
"Prime Minister Stephen Harper today announced that His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, will travel to Brazil, Barbados and Trinidad and Tobago from April 22 to May 2, 2012.
"During his visit to Brazil, the Governor General will attend the second Conference of the Americas on International Education (CAIE) and will promote Canada as a preferred partner for commerce, education at all levels, and science, technology and innovation.
"In Barbados, the Governor General will participate in celebrations marking the Diamond Jubilee of Her Majesty The Queen. His Excellency will also highlight the substantial and growing educational ties between Canada and the Caribbean.
"In Trinidad and Tobago, the Governor General will participate in celebrations marking the 50th anniversary of the country’s independence and mark 50 years of vibrant relations between Canada and the Caribbean nation. His Excellency will also promote stronger two-way educational ties."
