This doesn't quite answer your question specifically, but I do recall reading of French Canadian's reaction to the French Revolution. Philipe Aubert de Gaspé recalled "Suddenly my father leapt from his chair, his eyes aflame, he cried 'infamous beasts! They have guillotined their King!' From that day, I understood the horrors of the French Revolution."
It is not unreasonable to imagine a similar reaction of English colonists in what is now Canadian territory vis-a-vis the English Civil War.
