Does anyone have any idea where Mr Mulcair stands on the monarchy?
In a Hill Times article on the monarchy (in which our Dominion Chairman is quoted), I read the following with regard to the NDP and the monarchy:
NDP MP Pat Martin (Winnipeg Centre, Man.) has gone on record as saying that the cost of royal visits alone was enough to warrant abolishing the Crown as head of state, a view that Tom Mulcair (Outremont, Que.) has backed.
Mr Mulcair also signed a petition to have The Queen's portrait removed from the Foreign Affairs building in Ottawa (two tableaux by Alfred Pellan, a Quebec artist, were removed to make room for it).
Nathan Cullen, who finished a surprisingly strong third in the leadership race -- which guarantees him a prominent role in the shadow cabinet -- has also called for a referendum on the monarchy.
