There are a number of monarchists -- some of them post on this board -- who consistently demonstrate an anti-British bias, frequently under the guise of being pro-Canadian.
This kind of bogus opposition is a typically republican subterfuge. I suspect that, for many republicans, attacking the monarchy is a politically acceptable means of indulging their dislike of the British.
As an example, we have to look no farther than a very recent article by the arch-republican of the Canadian media, Jeffrey Simpson (here: http://bit.ly/nhXuQT).
If the word "British" was dropped and the words "French", "aboriginal" or "Pakistani" were substituted, I highly doubt that this piece would ever have seen the light of day -- not in the so-called "respectable" press.
I find such racism absolutely offensive. That it is permitted because it is dressed up as an attack on the Royal Family makes it even more repugnant.
