The Crown may be a shared symbol, but we should never fool ourselves into thinking this is an equal sharing. Sometimes, in my darker moments, I feel that we are left with only the crumbs. The relative lack of "presence" (not just physical, but psychological) is part of the reason that there is as much resistance to constitutional monarchy in Canada as there is. Monarchists might not like it, but the reality is that most Canadians view the royal family as "foreign" in some way. Will this ever change? Doubtful...
