I hadn't read this and I find it a little disturbing...
I really don't appreciate the Prime Minister seeming to believe that the Queen is Canada's Head of State purely as some kind of 'thank you gesture' to Great Britain or that somehow the monarchy exists to keep us friendly with Britain.
It's exactly this kind of talk from gov't officials that leaves Canadians wondering what the monarchy is and why we have it...
(sigh)
