When people say that the monarchy is bad for society as it makes people think that success is bred rather than earned my reply is always that this seems a logical argument but the evidence does not back it up. That evidence is the fact that the most egalitarian (least difference between rich and poor, most chances for the poor to succeed) countries in the world according to the OECD are Sweden, Norway, Denmark, the Netherlands and Finland and all but Finland are monarchies. Also that the top 10 most developed countries on the United Nations Human Development Index change each year but include some or all of Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Japan, UK, Luxembourg, Spain and the monarchies already mentioned above. The only republics that challenge these monarchies for good government, rule of law, fairness and democracy are the USA (but it has a large gap between rich and poor and the poor find it hard to get rich), France (which has an entrenched class system despite being a republic), Switzerland (which has issues with racism and gender equality), Germany (well I wont go there....) and Finland which seems to be the exception that proves the rule.
