While watching the online edition of the National, I have noticed what appears to be intentional cynicism regarding both the Royal Visit and the monarchy in general.
Questions I would like answered:
1) Why do they focus almost exclusively on the dwindling crowds while ignoring the substance of the visit itself?
2) Why do they always interview members of the British media about the Royal Family at the expense of Canadian authorities? I thought the British had now power over Canadian affairs.
3) Why are they constantly pigeonholing monarchists as being "royal watchers," or "royal fans," as if we are on par with readers of gushing publications like People Magazine?
The newspapers are actually doing fine this time around. The CBC, in contrast, seems to be adding fuel to the fire of debate.
