Very good question Mike.
This is EXACTLY why Royal visits no longer matter to most (dare I say 'average') Canadians.
The Royal visits are exclusive - made special only to those 'connected' (note I said connected and not deserving) individuals who are lucky enough to score an invitation to some event hosted by or attended by the Royal visitors.
There are no grand public spectacles held on the concrete of city hall square; There are no public parades or grand events open to all.
Rather, these visits exclude the public and promote the politicians, the civil servants or anyone else in the 'Royal enclosure".
I am a monarchist but, I have no desire to stand out in the cold at the side of a street, in order to wave at a black car that might by.
