Do you think it would be fair to say that prorogation was a sort of compromise between complete dissolution and handing the government over to a coalition?
I'm inclined to think that the GG might've refused to call an election, because precedent could have arguably pointed against thins (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lascelles_Principles and others).
Do you think it's plausible that Harper knew this, and he asked for a prorogation because the GG might have pulled the plug otherwise and "setting off the supreme constitutional device" (à la Frank MacKinnon in "The Crown in Canada").
