Dear members and friends,
I am sure you are now aware of the recent controversy surrounding a speech given by Her Excellency The Governor General in Paris at an executive meeting of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
Unfortunately, Mme Jean referred to herself as Canada's "Head of State" twice during an otherwise wondeful speech. Of course, the Governor General is not Canada's Head of State but rather the representative of the Head of State, Her Majesty The Queen.
I have written to the Governor General's Secretary to express our concern over this erroneous statement.
I am determined to find out how and why such references were made in the first place and to ensure that such errors are not made in the future.
In closing, I hope that this disappointing story does not in anyway detract from the positive news about the upcoming Royal Homecoming of The Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall.
Robert Finch,
Dominion Chairman
