I can take the credit (or blame) for the statement on the League's website. It goes back to an article that I wrote on the Queen's 1986 visit to China for the wonderful old Monarchy Canada magazine (vol. 14, no. 1, winter/spring 1987). What I said was "Educated Chinese were especially interested in articles on the Queen's genealogy, some of which traced her lineage back to the Tang dynasty." In the two decades since then, I've tried to find more specific information, but to no avail. Sorry!
