As a teacher of Canadian Civics in Ontario I have to say that the knowledge that people have of the Crown (I am talking about educators here) varies from person to person, but is generally poor.
The resources available to teachers are poor (textbooks written by people with little or no knowledge of The Queen's role in government). To me, this is a key area that needs to be addressed.
