My first middle school exposure was in grade six when the teacher asked what we knew about the queen. Oh the foolishness of youth, I answered "she used to be in charge of Canada" The teacher replied rightly that she still is which caused some confusion on my part afterall why are we always talking about these Prime Minister people then? I forget the rest of the conversation and do not recall the monarchy talked about at all in high school. I only really started to appreciate the monarchy's role after high school.
That being said I think it might be better taught then in my day as my sister's children were taught a whole lot more then I was and I have too tried to instill some appreciation in them.
