This tradition of avoiding royal tours/homecomings during election campaigns is so out of date. The idea that the presence of a member of the royal family with a politician, i.e. the Prime Minister or a cabinet minister would add some advantage to the electoral success of that politician is preposterous in these times. With Canada set for the election of successive minority governments for the foreseeable futre and their ever attendant chance of falling ensures that we are unlikely to have a royal tour/homecoming for a very very long time indeed. Maybe never again. Lets chuck out this dated out of place practice. The Monarchy adapts to modernization - simply look at The Queen's reign over the past almost 60 years. This is one further area where a little modernization would go a long way to paving the way for regular royal tours/homecomings for the future.
