I totally agree with Dan.
Her Majesty The Queen has served Canada as our head of state for the majority of her lifetime and she has done a wonderful job. Opening the 2010 Olympics would've been an awesome token of respect to the RIGHTFUL Canadian Head-of-State.
In due time, no one will remember our current GG. I agree with Dan and I am a monarchist as well; if the royal family is just kept in the Canadian system to avoid making various people angry, why have them at all? Apparently the GG is treated as the head of state; The Queen isn't even given a second thought by the government in Ottawa.
I feel sorry for Her Majesty, I wish for before her death she could do something more here in Canada that has solid meaning!!!! This event would've been ideal. The Queen has been active in Canadian life since before her first visit back in 1951; Where was Michaelle Jean up until her vice-regal appointment?
What a sad state of affairs! I for one will not be watching the opening; I wrote to request that Her Majesty open the games, where is the reply saying that my voice/opinion went unheard?
