Your comments in the first paragraph represents one of the traditional views. However, as I said, there are many constitutional scholars who argue that the notion of the Crown has developed well beyond the traditional view.
It's easy to understand why the LGs emphasize their links to Her Majesty, because in doing so, they are showing that they are not subservient to the GG. However, the LGs really have very little links to Her Majesty. They are not able to directly communicate with Buckingham Palace, as all communications between the various Government Houses (or Vice Regal Suites) have to be channelled through Rideau Hall. They only receive a 15 minute audience at some time during their term, and they do not report to Buckingham Palace in any capacity. Whereas the Governor General receives at least two audiences with a stayover at Balmoral, gets to communicate directly with BP, and at their discretion send letters of update to HM. I much prefer the Australian system where the State Governors retain their direct links to The Queen.
