Sounds strange? Let me explain.
First off, the seals and the GG: As many of you may know, the Governor General is on a tour of Canada's North. When the GG paid a visit to a Inuit area, she surprised many by eating part of the heart of a baby seal! Most of Inuit welcomed this gesture, but animal rights activists got angry. As Governor General she should uphold Canadian culture and tradition, but at the same time remain neutral. Many in the South of Canada are not happy with what she did. Also, she wasn't offered the heart to eat, she asked herself. What do people think of this? Was the GG wrong in doing this and making some Canadians angry? Or was she right in promoting Inuit culture.
Now about Britain. Isn't it just annoying that people, even when an issue, event, etc is about Canada and ONLY about Canada, refer to Her Majesty as BRITAIN'S Queen Elizabeth II? I just read a news article a while ago about the GG and her visit north and the writer had taken some extra effort to include Britain in. Shouldn't it be CANADA'S Queen Elizabeth II? Or the writer could have just written Queen Elizabeth II, instead of adding 'Britian's' in front.
Heres the article I'm talking about: http://www.cumberlink.com/articles/2009/06/08/ap/regional/canada/d98i4aeo3.txt
Isn't that just so annoying? Whenever anyone comes across something like this, if theres an option to, you should correct those mistakes by sending an email or comment to the writer...
Finally, D-Day: As some of you may know, in an insult to the memories of the thousands of Canadian and British soldiers who fought an died to free France on the beaches of Normandy, Sarkozy said "it's mainly an Fraco-American event. Imagine that. Maybe he doesn't know the facts, but Britain and Canada made up 60 percent of the Liberation force. To further the insult he didn't invite Her Majesty to the event, being Head of State of both Britain and Canada, as well as being a war veteran herself, she is the most important of the leaders. The Canadian Government should have/should right now express regret at the absence of the Head of State from the event. What do the rest of you think of this insult?
