When I wrote the Conservative minister of the day, Mr Turnbull, his reply mentioned nothing about bilingualism. Rather, he said that the small lettering constituted a hasard, as motorists could be distracted while attempting to read the phrase "The King's Highway" while driving.
I note, however, that the small writing has returned on the Highway of Heroes signs on the 401. It makes me think what we all probably think: it's just another republican measure.
