I agree that an elected official would be worse than the present holder of this office. While Mme. Jean is personable and attractive she has been a near unmitigated failure as GG "the best GG Haiti ever had" in the words of a number of Ottawa bureaucrats. While it is difficult to imagine a less successful/effective upholder of the Crown I am sure it is possible to find one. Why can't we have someone who actually cares about the institution they are sworn to uphold, someone who is interested in all of Canada? Only 15 more months -- sadly a lot of damage can be done in that time. I live in fear of what the GG's "legacy" project is going to be. No doubt something costly, pointless and totally uninteresting to Canadians.
