Another year another Victoria Day leaves Canadians still dumbfounded to the fact it is a holiday that also recognizes the present day monarch's birthday officially in Canada. For me Victoria Day is just that Victoria's Day. A holiday for her birthday plus the fact that she was the Sovereign at the time of Confederation making her our Mother-of-Confederation. Back to the present day monarch, Queen Elizabeth II officially recognizes her birthday in June as does the United Kingdom with the trooping of the colour ceremony, Australia and New Zealand follow suit with the Queen's Birthday Holidays in June. I wish the Canadian Government wouldn't have made it that the present day monarch hijacks Queen Victoria's Day. Personally I'd like to see Canada join its Commonwealth cousins and make the 2nd or 3rd Monday in June the Queen's Birthday Holiday of course this holiday at some point would become the King's Birthday Holiday. And everyone loves a holiday.
