In the course of researching these things, that's exactly what occurred to me: the Mk50 Directors look VERY much like RN main-battery directors. Right down to the radar added on top - except the RN radars were those little spiky wave-guide things, instead of small dishes.
Donny, where do you get all your detailed accounts of the Bismarck slugfest? I've tried googling it, but always come up with the same, generalized stories which don't add much of anything beyond the basics. I'd really love to see your complete, recommended reading-list on the subject, sometime.
Meantime, good to see you again, buddy! This Texas project - plus another customer's interest in options for kitbashes from the ever-useful Revell Arizona mold - has rekindled a longtime obsession with the USN WWII "old" battlewagons (originally restricted pretty much to just the rebuilt West Virginia), and I've got more posts to come.
What are you working on these days, buddy?
Cheers,
- Matt
