"The DOD Earth Orbit LM was a paper project by Grumman Aerospace to use a variation model of the (Apollo) L(unar)M(odule) for use in Earth orbit...Here is a picture of (it):
It was basically a LM without the landing gear (legs) but still retained the both ascent & descent stages and also a robotic arm mounted on the top right side of the descent stage (right side looking out the window of the ascent stage.) . The Grumman concept drawing I have shows the LM with a robotic arm moving an astronaut in a personnel basket (a stretcher like affair) wile being assisted by a space walking astronaut. I had read somewhere that this LM was to be used by Apollo DOD missions to disable satellites from a threat nation.
I found (the above) print on e-bay & won the auction for it last winter...This picture is titled "Rescue LM" and was a copy of the Grumman artist's rendering of what the vehicle would look like...
...So far I have the descent stage from a Revell (original Revell 1/48 Eagle kit) LM with a robotic arm from a 1/72 Revell (original Revell & not the Monogram) Space Shuttle kit. My kits ascent stage took a dive from the bench & broke into an un repairable & un useable unit, so I took an ascent stage from an original Monogram (1st Lunar Landing set) kit to replace it. That is as far as I got with that..."
