"...I fly air ambulance helicopters for a private ambulance company in south Louisiana (my base is Baton Rouge) & right now I'm working the night shift (6pm to 6am) we fly older helicopters...MBB (now American Eurocopter) Bo 105s & I have been on this job going on 19 years...I used to build kit(s) in sub-assemblies at work but with the job having increased responsibilities, I only model on days when I know the weather will be below (flight) minimums which is not very often...
...The current models I have been working on are Hobby Boss 1/700 USS Los Angeles, 1/230 Revell Skipjack, 1/144 Trumpeter Seawolf subs...I'm new to the Submarine side of modeling as I normally build Real Space & aircraft kits. I'm also familiar with resin & photo etch parts & kits. I just started to build subs as a part of something I read on line about the USS Baton Rouge & the USS Louisiana boats & that got me started...I just needed something small & not too elborate to build (unlike an aircraft kit of any large scale or a very detailed kit)...plus a friend is building a Fletcher Class (destroyer) with all the PE & resin detail kits you can get...
...(I also build) Space models, I have a kit bash 1/48 Lunar Model derivative (using Revell & Mongram kit parts) which replicates a vehicle for earth orbit DOD missions. Also, I have a 1/72 Orion CEV spacecraft model (resin kit by Fantastic Plastic) I'm still working on the paint job, and finally I have a Revell 1/8 Lunar Astronaut that I started building in the early 90s...
...I guess I have stumbled on that modeling disease when you never finish anything you start. Well I don't have more than 8 unbuilt kits anywhere in my 'Man Cave' so I feel like I have accomplished something. But when I get the Hobby Boss 1/700 USS Los Angeles painted, I will have finished something for the first time this year...
...As far as (unstarted) kits, I have a bunch of aircraft, helicopter, & real spacecraft kits (both styrene & resin), a few resin astronaut kits (both space walkers & Moon walkers), & a few sub kits. In addition to the sub kits above, I have 1/700 Hobby Boss Typhoon, USS Greenville, Seawolf, & 2 other Russian subs. In 1/350 scale, I have 2 DML USS Ohio kits, Yankee Modelworks USS Los Angeles, & USS Virginia...
...I found out about (Matt Stein Models) while...researching camo colors for modern US subs (late 50's on) & came across a submission of a Skipjack Class boat (USS Scamp SSN-588) by Gregory Greene...(in) the Gallery section of Model Warships.com...(where) he mentioned your company & your ("J"-)prop as a replacement for the one on the Revell Skipjack kit...
...I will see what pictures I can dig up...this week...I am working extra as we have a pilot on vacation...& (I) will probably be working more later in the year as we have 2 pilots transferring to a new Metro Aviation contract in Cleveland, OH. But when I find time, I will send pictures of my soon to be completed subs...I have digital pictures of my Real SpaceModels 1/12 Explorer 1 Satellite model, a 1/100 Heller Lunar Module that has been detailed a little bit. I will have to see what I have at home on the computer there..."
