Donny, that's a GREAT submission - and change of pace - here, buddy! And your mom sounds like other women I've known who really do love sailing ships - even if they're warships - more than anything more modern.
I even also have an "Uncle" Gil - actually just a friend of the family - who used to build wooden sailing ship models, and is now going into assisted living, too!
Meanwhile, your description of the kit, particularly the instructions, also sounds familiar - and hilarious! But that humble kit and some quality gloss paints really came out looking quite good. Excellent post - Thank You!
I do have one request: photograph it alongside your Renwal boomer kit. At 1/200 scale, it is only 2% off (underscale) from your Old Ironsides; it should be a real eye-opener.
And then be sure to give it away quick; before it gathers dust and you have to clean it!
