Posted by Tom Turpin The best recent news is that we now have (joined with West Stockwith) what every village in the country wants - a village bobby! (He's called an PCSO, but that's just the new acronym for the old-fashioned bobby.) If he had been around earlier, I feel pretty sure the recent spate of vandalism - which imo cost us a place in the second round of the Best Kept Village Comp.- would have been nipped in the bud before it became so serious - and I hope that the annual spate of vandalism that occurs during the school holidays and that costs us money that could be much better spent elsewhere will also be checked. If, as seems certain, Misterton is entered next year for the BKVC, there are hopes that the boarded-up buildings in the village centre will be at least partly sorted out. Our District Councillor has been asked to gee up Bassetlaw DC about getting rid of the Old Bank - the Parish Council has been trying for five years to get some action on that. The Village Hall may be sold by then, and put into use again or demolished, and talks are going on with the County Council about the reorganisation of the Old School/Library/Victoria Institute complex. I'm not holding my breath on that one, but we might be inching slowly towards a resolution. The spellchecker suggested I should spell 'centre' as 'center' For American readers, I suppose.

David Wright, our Parish Council Clerk, tells me (I'm a Director of the MAP) that he had a letter all signed, sealed and ready to deliver to all MAP members, about the latest Planning Application for the Newell Dunfords site, containing the information that the transfer of ownership of the Sports Field to the village had been omitted. But just before it was due to go out, he received notification from Spawforths Associates, the agents for Langleys, the developers, that the omission had been rectified. So the letter, overtaken by events, won't be sent. It illustrates the difficulties of keeping us all up to date with the latest developments.
But that's what this site could be used for, if people are prepared to access it and post their news and comments. I know not everyone has a computer or an internet connection, but many people have, and it ain't hard to use - even I can do it.
Meanwhile I am urging the Parish Council to consider some serious works on the War Memorial - I think that would give a message that we are serious about smartening up the village, and would be a fitting emblem of the regeneration which is ongoing, and gathering pace. I could do with some support on that one - How about it?
